Kembach - Dietenhan - Lindelbach
|Total length:||9.5 km|
|Walking time:||approx. 3.5 hours|
|Local public transport:||easy to reach from Wertheim by bus|
|Parking:||at Sonnenberg hut|
The hike starts at Sonnenberg hut in Kembach. The car park is located directly adjacent.
We amble through the Sonnenberg vineyards down to the Wertheim district of Kembach, enjoying the gorgeous views. On the edge of the path we notice the spurs of Franconian shell limestone. These rocky strata are what given the local wines their typical flavour. Our path touches the edges of forests and zig-zags gently downhill, down almost to the fringes of Dietenhan. We turn tight and climb up the Ebenrain vineyard.
From here we enjoy a spectacular view of the bend in the river Main at Urphar. Perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to take a souvenir photo of a cruise ship gliding through the waters or a tug pulling barges drifting by directly below the historical fortified church. We reach Lindelbach after a brief descent (with its Baroque era village church from the 18th century). Then we proceed eastwards through the Schöneberg vineyards, before turning right onto a varied hiking route through pretty woodlands, back to our starting point at the Sonnenberg hut.
