Immerse yourself in the history of Wertheim County
Spread over more than 2,200 m² in several adjacent houses, among them the Old Town Hall and the House of the Four Crowned Martyrs, the Wertheim County Museum is home to a collection of cultural and historical exhibits of national significance tracing life in the former County of Wertheim. In addition to numerous folklore departments and permanent exhibitions, it also includes works by the north German painter Otto Modersohn (1865-1943) and his third wife Louise Modersohn-Breling, depicting impressions of Wertheim, Würzburg and Franconia. There are also regular temporary exhibitions. Educational programmes for school classes, holiday groups and other children’s groups in various ages are also bookable by prior arrangement, including courses in the blue printing workshop and in the art of creating fire.
The permanent exhibitions in the Old Town Hall and the House of the Four Crowned Martyrs include cultural and historical collections from the city and the former County of Wertheim, folklore exhibitions and works by the artist Otto Modersohn.
- ‘EVERYTHING THIS IS CAN BE DESCRIBED”
- BETWEEN THE MAIN AND THE TAUBER: OTTO MODERSOHN CABINET
- “ONCE UPON A TIME”
- KID’S LAND - A PLACE OF MAGIC
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the County Museum also features regular temporary shows with folklore exhibits, artworks and pieces tracing the history of the city. The collection at the County Museum comprises around 20,000 exhibits, of which not all of them can be shown or presented in the permanent exhibitions. This is why the inventories are used frequently to organise special, themed exhibitions on specific topics. For the current special exhibitions, click here www.grafschaftsmuseum.de
Educational guided tours and projects round off the programme at the County Museum. The courses in blue printing and creating fire invite participants to roll up their sleeves and get involved. An exciting option, not just for school classes!
